Honey Garlic Glazed Salmon

  • 4 6oz pieces salmon fillets
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp gluten-free tamari
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 stalks green onions (sliced)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

    PREHEAT AND PREPARE: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper (or foil for easier cleanup). Remove salmon from refrigerator and pat dry with paper towels.

    MAKE THE GLAZE: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, GF tamari, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil until well combined. The mixture should be smooth and slightly thick. Set aside half the glaze for serving.

    PREPARE THE SALMON: Place salmon fillets skin-side down on the prepared baking sheet, leaving at least 1 inch between them. Season lightly with salt (the tamari is salty, so go easy). Spoon half the glaze evenly over each fillet, letting it run down the sides.

    BAKE THE SALMON: Place in the oven and bake for 8 minutes. Remove the pan and spoon any glaze that has pooled back over the salmon (this is called basting). Return to the oven and bake another 4-6 minutes until the salmon is almost cooked through but still slightly translucent in the very center - it will continue cooking from residual heat.

    CARAMELIZE UNDER THE BROILER: Switch oven to broil (high). Brush salmon with the reserved glaze. Broil for 1-2 minutes, watching closely, until the glaze caramelizes and turns slightly sticky and browned. The sugars in the honey can burn quickly, so don't walk away!

    SERVE: Transfer salmon to plates. Scatter sliced green onions over the top and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve immediately with steamed rice and vegetables. Drizzle any remaining glaze from the pan over the top.
